WETHERSFIELD DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS
The Wethersfield Citizens Scholarship Foundation, now known as "Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars®," was founded in 1974 by Dr. Philip Sehl and Mr. Felix Babel to provide one-time scholarships to graduating seniors who live in Wethersfield and plan to pursue any form of post-secondary education. This nonprofit organization is managed by volunteers and funded entirely by donations from local residents and businesses. Scholarships are based primarily on financial need (using National Dollars for Scholars Guidelines), academic accomplishment, and community service, although some awards specify distinct selection criteria. Over 95 percent of all available funds are distributed to students. Since its founding, Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars has awarded over $3,727,095 in scholarships to more than 4,000 students. During the 2022-2023 academic year, the Wethersfield Dollars for Scholars distributed $140,095 to 68 graduating seniors from Wethersfield.
